Converse and Marimekko have announced yesterday that they have joined their design forces for a new collection, and this spring 2011 we can walk a mile in Converse shoes with Marimekko's design patterns! The patterns are Marimekko's classics designed by Annika Rimala (Tarha and Pikkusuomu patterns) and Maija & Kristina Isola (Kirppu pattern).
Here's a Youtube clip, where Marimekko's Design Manager Noora Niinikoski tells about the idea between the collaboration between the two companies:
To me, the cooperation of these two companies sounds very logic. Marimekko produces the kind of thick cotton fabrics and design patterns that fit very well Converse shoes, and both the companies are very strong design icons. The shoes look fresh and modern as well as timeless. And I'm so glad there's no more Unikko ("Poppy") pattern, these shoes have a more contemporary, joyful and youthful look. It shows that Marimekko is a design company that has strong design traditions but instead of living in the past it's able to renew every day!
The shoes will be in stores globally in February. In Finland the delivery week is week 9.
